I’ll go over everything you need to know about the financial aspect of blogging, including how much money you might potentially make, the average blogger income per genre, what to expect for your own blogger pay during your first year, and ideas on making (more) money from your blog.
How Much Can You Earn From Blogging?
Some bloggers make absolutely nothing. Others earn $500,000 or more annually. Some people begin with a blog and eventually establish a full commercial empire. (We’ll look at some instances of really successful bloggers in various sectors later.) So, how much money could you make with your blog? That will depend on your skills and the specialization you’ve selected. However, it is certainly possible to expect to earn a respectable, full-time salary from blogging: consider $100,000 or more per year after your blog is well-established. Of course, there is no such thing as a limit when it comes to blogging. You can either continue to build existing blog or start new ones. That also does not imply working 80-hour weeks. You may hire a virtual assistant or a team of freelance writers and work only 10 to 20 hours each week.
So, how much do new bloggers earn?
Most experienced bloggers believe that you won’t make much money in your first year of blogging. You may make nothing in your first several months. Depending on your life circumstances, it may not happen as rapidly for you. Obviously, if you have a lot of personal commitments, you may not have much time to devote to your blog. However, your income should rise steadily over the next few months and years.
Are You Ready to Launch Your Blog?
You might be wondering what the average blogger salary is: how much do regular bloggers make? When it comes to blogging, defining a “average” is difficult. Some bloggers are content to consider their blog as a hobby, earning little or no money from it – perhaps just enough to cover the price of web hosting. Other bloggers may start their blog while living with their parents for free and expand it quickly.
The average blogger may expect to earn roughly $45,000 per year. (According to ZipRecruiter, the average annual blogger pay is $38,440. According to Glassdoor, the average blogger pay is $51,906.) So, how much do bloggers make on average across different sorts of blogs? Here is an estimate of the typical blogger revenue in certain popular niches.

Characteristics of a Professional Blogger
To make money from anything, you must approach it properly. Assume you wanted to generate money by selling cakes. Which of these two ways would be most effective?
- Bake cakes and place them on a table outside your house, along with a donation box and a tiny note requesting donations. Nothing further should be done.
- Call local companies and ask if they want to order cakes; set up a cake stand at a local event; create a Facebook page for your cakes and ask friends to promote it; put up posters advertising your cakes; listen to feedback and continue making the most popular cakes.
Obviously, the second strategy will be lot more effective. The same holds true for blogging. You won’t generate much (or any) money if you just start a blog and produce a few posts. You will begin to make money if you actively search out chances. So, if you want to be a professional blogger, you need develop these behaviors. I cannot recall a single successful blogger who did not perform the following three things:
1. Approach your blogging like if it were a business
To begin, treat blogging as a business (with an actual blog business plan) rather than a pastime or passing interest. You do not have to formally establish a firm, but you should be business-like in terms of:
- You’re devoting time to your blog. Some bloggers prefer to set aside time each week for blogging, just as they would for any other profession.
- Keeping track of your income and expenses. (This is critical when it comes to filing taxes. Even if you make very little money, you should develop the habit of keeping track of all your incomings and outgoings.)
- Keeping to a budget. Spending a lot of money on writing classes, expensive WordPress themes, and even things like Facebook advertising might be quite enticing. While you will most likely have to spend some money before you start making money from your blog, you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars before seeing any return on your investment.
2. Experiment with Different Techniques (and Stick With What Works)
There are numerous ways to make money online. Most bloggers monetize their websites by running online adverts, promoting affiliate products, and selling their own items or services. Don’t limit yourself to just one method of monetizing your site. Some strategies are more suited to specific niches or types of blogs than others. Running advertising, for example, could be profitable if you have a lot of visitors and blog about something like credit cards or gadgets – but it’s unlikely to be useful on a small travel site.
Experiment with various monetization methods. When you find anything that seems to work for you, stick with it and try to enhance your earnings.
3. Constantly Learn From Other Bloggers

Courses are often given as pre-recorded videos, but you can create and run your course anyway you see fit. Students frequently demand some level of interaction (e.g. a Facebook group where they can ask questions, Q&A calls, or even one-to-one calls with you). This means that you can charge a higher price for a course than for a digital product.
- Services (e.g. freelancing) (e.g. freelancing). Many bloggers offer freelance services such as freelance design, freelance writing, life coaching, business consulting, speaking, and much more. Consider whether you have knowledge in a certain area that you may offer as a service. Even if you don’t intend to do it long-term, it can be a terrific method to make a lot of money with a little audience.
- Software as a Service (SaaS). This demands upfront expertise and investment, thus it is not a path that many bloggers choose. Selling Software as a Service (software on a subscription basis) on the other hand, can be quite profitable. Many bloggers use this method to sell WordPress plugins and even WordPress themes.
Employment. Some bloggers choose to earn money by blogging for a company as a full-time or part-time job. This provides the security of a paycheck but limits how much the blogger can earn unless they receive a raise. Many bloggers work from home and may have flexible hours.
As you can see, there are numerous ways for bloggers to earn money. In actuality, most high-earning bloggers will have many income streams, which may alter as their blog grows.

Growing your search engine traffic is a vast subject, but here are some fundamentals to get you started:
- When creating your content calendar, conduct some keyword research. Each post you publish in your niche should be based on a single keyword. You must pick keywords that are popular enough to generate traffic but not so popular that they are impossible to rank effectively for.
- Make your blog entries search engine friendly. They also get traffic from social media and other blogs in their area. This has the significant benefit of already knowing something about you (even if they’ve only read a single post — or a single tweet — you’ve written). Guest blogging, or writing for other people’s blogs, is a great method to bring someone else’s audience to your site.

You can do the same on social media by growing your following, getting to know significant figures in your industry (maybe by sharing their work), and responding to people and starting conversations. Method #3: Examine Affiliate Products (and Link To Them Regularly)
Affiliate marketing is an excellent approach to monetize a blog because it works for almost any niche and size of blog. Whatever you write about, there will undoubtedly be items and services associated to it. Many online retailers, including Amazon, have an affiliate program through which you can earn money by suggesting their products. It’s preferable to recommend items and services that you’ve utilized and can honestly stand behind. (If you recommend something subpar, your reputation with your readers will suffer.)
Begin by compiling a list of relevant items, tools, services, and so on. Consider what you use on a regular basis that would be of interest to your audience. If you blog about freelance photography, for example, you may market cameras and accessories, as well as freelancer tools like accounting software or even WordPress themes. Most bloggers will have a “Services” or “Hire Me” page where they explain what they do. You may offer to work with a small number of readers at half-price or even for free to gather some early testimonials on your page. You may perhaps approach readers with whom you already have a relationship (e.g., those who have commented or emailed you) to see if they’d be interested.
Method #6: Expand Your Email List
Many email marketers will tell you that “the money is in the list,” and it’s true that the larger your email list, the more money you’ll make from it. - Create a “upsell,” in which you promote a product to clients who have just made a purchase (typically at a time-limited discount).
- Create a membership or subscription service in which users pay a monthly price to gain access to regular material, software, and so on. They simply need to decide to buy once, at the start of their subscription, and you keep their money until they cancel.
How Much Can You Earn From Blogging? That is entirely up to you
Making money blogging takes time. You cannot start a blog and earn a professional wage the same day. However, for many people, blogging is an excellent internet business model. It’s not expensive to get started, you can work your own hours, and you can try out different ideas – and stick with what works for you. If you want to develop a consistent blogging income, start by acting like a professional blogger. Treat your blog as a business and work on it on a regular basis. Then, try employing the ways listed above to boost your blog’s income. In a couple of years, you could be making six figures or perhaps more.
